Case Study: Children’s Mercy Kansas City

CCS was retained to conduct a feasibility and planning study to determine Children’s Mercy’s potential to raise as much as $350 million. Our engagement included an organizational scan to review the philanthropy team’s preparedness to undertake this ambitious effort, a predictive modeling exercise to help surface new major gift potential, and more than 100 personal interviews and an electronic survey.

As a result, CCS developed a campaign blueprint to raise funds for the new Children’s Mercy Research Institute. Children’s Mercy received recommendations on the case and messaging, leadership engagement, prospective donors, and a campaign plan as they launched the campaign in-house. More than $250 million has been raised to date, including two transformative $75 million gifts. The construction of the Children’s Mercy Research Institute was completed in September 2020.
